Virgie was born on Thursday March 10, 1927 in Hereford, Texas to Robert John & Virgie (Crawford) Bruce. She graduated from Whittier High School in California before moving to Duncan. Virgie battled many health issues at a young age that inspired her to pursue a career in the medical field. She graduated from Cameron College, with an Associates Degree in Nursing. She went on to work as an LPN at P&S Hospital, Lindley Hospital, and the Medical Center Hospital for over 10 years. After her retirement from the hospital, she worked at Kanakuk Nursing Home part time. Virgie has been a resident of Duncan since 1946. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she taught youth Sunday School and worked with the Children's Choir. She was also a member of the Adult Choir and loved to work Vacation Bible School. She was a loving mother to 3 children, David, Mark, and Allison. She loved attending sporting events, especially football and basketball games, and cheering on her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and could often be found sewing her own clothes or making afghans to give to friends and family. Her greatest joy in life was being known as "Bammama" and "Nanny" to all of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved sharing stories with them and making them laugh. Her sweet spirit, kindness, love, and smile will be missed by all that knew her.
