Sadie Ruth Binford) Budlong of Duncan, Oklahoma, died at the age of 101 on August 27, 2022.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Gibson and Marcus McEntire officiating, interment will follow at the Duncan Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the First United Methodist from 1:00 until service time at the First United Methodist Church.
Sadie was born December 20, 1920 in Marysville, Texas and was the daughter of Glen Barkdale and Lora Worley Binford. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1938 and then went on to graduate from North Texas State Teachers College in 1942 with a BS in Business Education. She taught school at Chandler, Texas for two years.
Sadie married the love of her life, Ralph Robert Budlong, on February 20, 1943 in Tyler, Texas. The couple moved to Duncan in January of 1946 he was discharged from the US Air Corp. She and Ralph owned and operated Duncan Candy & Tobacco Company, where Sadie was the bookkeeper until her retirement in 1978. She was known for her insistence that the financial book balance to the penny with absolutely no exception. Even auditors would not dare to argue with her because she was so disciplined in her bookkeeping skills.
Sadie was an active member of First United Methodist Church for 76 years and served on almost every church committee and board imaginable. She taught youth Sunday School classes in her yournger years and then moved on to teaching scripture to couples for 30 years of her membership. She was also active in United Methodist Women, serving as president of as a head of various committees.
She was a member of GFWC OWL CLUB for many years, serving as President and on other offices and committees. Sadie was an active person her entire life, often playing Bridge multiple times per week with friends and she was quite good at it. So good, in fact, that a number of younger couples asked her to teach them how to play the game, which she graciously and excitedly accepted.
There aren’t many people as faithful, loving, dependable, and Christlike as Sadie was. She and Ralph set Godly examples for relationship in how they treated one another with other and others with care and compassion. Sadie exemplified the Bible Verse encouraging all of us to pray without ceasing and she loved the LORD with everything in her.
Sadie was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother, her 3 sisters, her husband Ralph, and her son Terry Budlong of Duncan.
Sadie is survived by her daughter; Annette McEntire and her husband Jiggs, of Comanche, Oklahoma, her 6 grandchildren, and her 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Blake McEntire, Brant McEntire, Darell Budlong, Kavon Isabell, Jordan Thompson, and Charles Elledge.
