Mary Payne Obituary

Mary Verdene Payne 84, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at her home, with her family by her side.

Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Duncan Cemetery with Rev. Matt Chambers officiating, and arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.

Family visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. May 26, 2021 at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

Mary was born on Saturday, August 29, 1936 in between Duncan and Comanche, to Jesse & Lillie (Miller) Burks, she attended Duncan Public School and graduated from Duncan High School in 1956, she worked for the Duncan Public School System untill her retirement. She married Travis Payne May 26, 1959 in Duncan, and to this union were born two daughter; Renee' and Rhonda. Mary and Travis would have been married 62 years on May 26, 2021.

She is survived by her husband; Travis of the home, daughters; Renee' Willhite and Rhonda Willhite, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Mary was preceeded in death by her parents; Jesse & Lillie Burks, a sister; Irene Wagaman and a brother; Ray Burks.
