Mary Baker Obituary

Mary Lou (Weir) Baker, born January 17, 1927, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 23, 2021 at her home in Duncan, Oklahoma surrounded by her family and comforted by her friends.

Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the Duncan Cemetery with Pastor Gaylan Brumley officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

Family visitation will be Tuesday evening July 27, 2021 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

Mary was born and raised in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jeff and Grace Weir, graduating from Shawnee High School in 1945. She married Jim Baker of Seminole, Oklahoma in 1944 and was married for 72 years. They made their home in Duncan 67 years ago, where they remained until their passing. They had two children, Kent Alan Baker of Plano, Texas and Linda Kay Baker of Duncan, Oklahoma.

When in High School she begain working at JC Penny's, paused her career to raise a family, only to resume her career with JC Penny's in Duncan, managing the Ready to Wear Department.

Mary was known for her love of sewing, quilting, cooking and being a caring Mother and Wife. She was a devout Christian, a founding member of Parkview Baptist Church and a current member of the First Baptist Church of Duncan.

She had two younger brothers, Bill Weir of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Don Weir of Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Preceding her in death are her parents; Jeff and Grace Weir of Shawnee, Oklahoma, her brother and wife; Don & Pat Weir of Shawnee, Oklahoma and a sister-in-law Mary Sue Weir of Las Vegas, Nevada, her husband Jim Baker of 72 years passing at the age of 95 in 2016 and daughter; Linda Kay Baker, who passed at the age of 72, in 2018, and Tommy Baker a nephew of San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 66.

She is survived by her brother; Bill Weir of Las Vegas, Nevada, her son; Kent Baker and his wife Pam of Plano, Texas, Two nephews; C. Paul and Nikki Baker of Enid, Oklahoma, and Chris Weir of Las Vegas, Nevada. Two nieces; Sharall Baker Grissen and Wiley McCormick of Dallas, Texas and Sherry Weir McElmurry of Las Vegas, Nevada.
