Bertha Jane Bazhaw (Bergeron) Collins was born on April 4, 1938. She was the 11th. of 12 children born to Robert and Gradie (Bussell) in Cement, Oklahoma.
Nanny had a wandering soul. She lived many places but Oklahoma called her home. She spent the last 30 years in Lindsay, Oklahoma.
She was a proud descendant of the Citzen Potawatomi Nation. She was named by her brother, Ralph Bazhaw, on June 27, 2015. Ralph gave her the name Nanishakmot, (Nan Nee Shote Mote) her name means. She who is always helping. Nanny worked as a waitress and nurse's aide. But her main vocation was being a home maker. She loved to sew, upholstery, crochet, flower arranging and reading. She was a avid bargain shopper and costume jewelry collector. She was of the Pentecost faith.
Welcoming her at Heaven's Gate was her parents, her husband, Odie, her daughters, Chryl Lynn McKelvain and Tammy Behrens Mize, her grandsons, Kenneth Casteel and Darrell Lynn McKelvain, one great-grandson, Robert Bodie Thrasher. Greeting her there as well are her 6 brothers, Elbert, Charles, Robert, IH, James and Ralph, and her 4 sisters, Mary Copp, Beatrice Bowman, Leona Agee, and Delores Holiday.
Those waiting to see her again are her 5 son's , Charles and Lydia McKekvain, Carl McKelvain and Bill and Ronnie Behrens, Bobby and Alesa Bocox and Toby and Tonya Doyal, and 3 daughters, Jamie and Scotty Casteel, Lynda and Terry Smith, and Darla and Danny Sprague. She also leaves 28 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. on August 24, 2022 at tyhe Cement Cemetery. Family visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. August 23, 2022 at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
