Melvina Lee Word Kelly Mills

Melvina Mills 90 of Duncan, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Ashbrook Village in Duncan.

Graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jerry Couch officiating, arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

Melvina was born in Sterling, Oklahoma on July 14, 1926 to Edna (Powell and Claude Word. She married Earl N. Kelly on December 22, 1941. They moved to Duncan shortly after they were married. Melvina and Earl had three daughters; Shirley Ann, Mary Earlene, and Gloria Jean. Melvina worked for OEP and retired after 25 years and was member of Highland Park Baptist Church, she always stayed busy reading, sewing, crocheting, knitting, painting and creating all kinds of crafts. She especially loved reading and making quilts for her family. she was a very talented woman.

She is survived by her husband; Gene Mills of Duncan, Oklahoma, daughters; Shirley Hardisty and her husband Leon of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Earlene Conger and her husband David of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Gloria Nedd and her husband Wyman of Duncan, Oklahoma. sister; Peggy Brown of Lawton, Oklahoma and brothers; Claude Word Jr. (Sonny) of Camden, North Carolina and Thomas O. Brewer of Seattle, Washington, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 8 great-greatgrandchildren.

Melvina was preceded in death by her parents; Claude & Edna Word, husbands; Earl Kelly and Charles Cooksey, sister; Betty Harvey; grandchildren; Chris Johnson, Darrin Bridgers and great grandson; Casey Bridgers and son-in-law; Gary Bridgers.
