LaVeta Faye Sheppeard left for her Eternal Home on August 29, 2026 at the age of 86.

LaVeta was born to Marshall Sr. and Ila Dodson on November 13, 1939 in Courtney Flat, Oklahoma. She loved to read and earned her GED before attending Aladdin Beauty College in Duncan.

She was a special woman with a heart made of pure gold. She spent her days showering love on her family and also worked as a caregiver for the elderly. She was loved by all and was often called “Mom” by not only her sons, but their friends.

LaVeta is preceded in death by her parents, Marshall Sr. and Ila; brothers, Marshall Dodson, Jr. and Quinton Douglas Dodson; and two sons, Charles Jones and Terry Jones. She is survived by her sons, Charles Sheppeard, Melvin Sheppeard, and Orval Edwin Jones and his spouse Lily, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her care has been entrusted to Carter-Smart Funeral Directors. The family will receive visitors on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Carter-Smart Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Letitia Cemetery at 10:00 am, with Albert Standridge and Stephen Grace officiating.
