IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Marion
Smart
June 27, 1948 – February 3, 2026
John Smart, born June 27, 1948, passed from this world on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in his home.
John was born to Francis and Eula Faye (Gitthens) Smart in Waurika, Oklahoma, joining sister, Cheryl, later getting a brother, Ronald.
In 1983, he married Lisa Haynie and together they raised two girls, Kendra and Amanda. Their family lived life to the fullest, with love and laughter.
They moved to Duncan in 1950, and attended school at Emerson School, Duncan Junior High, and was a graduate of Duncan High School in 1966, he was a member of the Duncan Lettermen's Club, and he helped with many of his class reunion's and really enjoyed visiting with his classmates. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving from February 1969 and was at the rank of Sergeant when he was discharged in February of 1971. John worked for Halliburton Services until his retirement on January 5, 2011, after 38 years. After his retirement he enjoyed working in his yard and his flower gardens that they were selected as the yard of the month. John and a special group of friends who had been close friends since grade school and junior high, preceded him in death, Steve Fulton, Robert "Bob" Payne, Fred Little, Steve Whitten and Robert Bosley, John and Bill Holden, the last of those close friends became especially close in the last several years, they were both Oklahoma University Die Hard Fans, they would watch every football and basketball and the girls softball game that were on every weekend at John & Lisa's home, and they had already made plans for this weekend to watch the Super Bowl. His laughter and jokes will be greatly missed.
On a personal note, my big brother and I were always close but became much closer after he retired from Halliburton, I was lucky to have him live in the same town where we were able to stay in close contact with each other always working on something that needed to be fixed, he would always say to me, "You're the only little brother I have."
John was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Lloyd "Sox" and Eula Faye, our aunt & uncle who were like a second set of parents Buster & Judy Smart, also a special group of friends who have been close friends since junior high, Steve Fulton, Robert "Bob" Payne, Robert Bosley, Steve Whitten and Fred Little.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, of the home; daughters Kendra Morris and spouse, Chris, of Duncan, and Amanda Smith and husband Tommy, of Lawton; grandchildren Bodie, Bailey and Kiley Johnson; brother; Ronnie and wife Linda "Suzie" Smart, of Duncan; sister; Cheryl Dorris, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; nephews Will Dorris, John Dorris, Danny Smart, and Dustin Smart; niece Meredith Henderson; great-nephews Gavin Henderson, Jon Smart, David Smart, Jude Smart, Corbyn Smart, Porter & Jack Dorris, Agustus Dorris, and Aleksander Dorris; great-nieces Emilee Henderson, Katie Henderson, Maddy Dorris, Jacobi Smart, and Elise Smart; as well as many extended family members and cherished friends.
