Jessie Fern Tinney, née Akers, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away in Duncan on August 26, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 22, 1935, in Duncan, a place that remained closely woven into the story of her life.

She was married on April 15, 1954, to Russell Lewis Tinney, with whom she shared many loving years. They expanded their family with son, Gregroy, daughters Brenda and Sharon, and son Rodney. Later they became grandparents and great-grandparents. Her family was her pride and joy and she cherished each one.

Jessie will be remembered with love and gratitude by those who knew her. Her life spanned many years of change and memory, and her presence brought comfort to the people gathered around her at the end, just as it had throughout her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Edna Akers; brother, Wayne; a daughter-in-law, Becky; and her great-granddaughter. Jessie is survived by her son Gregory Tinney; daughter Brenda Tinney-Ford; daughter Sharon Hawkins and husband Frankie; son Rodney Tinney and wife Tammy; grandchildren Melissa Thomas and husband Jason, Michelle Cavanaugh and husband Mark, Kurt Tinney and wife Amanda, Jessica Russell and husband Josh, Amber Molina and husband Isaac, Jordan Stubblefield and husband Alex; as well as 8 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for Jessie will be her beloved family members.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Carter-Smart Funeral Home, 1316 W Oak Ave, Duncan, Oklahoma 73533. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., also at Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
