Henry Leon Sheppeard, 83, went to his Heavenly home on June 20, 2026 with his loving family by his side.

Leon was born on December 8, 1942 in Hulen, Oklahoma, to Melvin M and Velva R Sheppeard. He grew up working on the farm, instilling in him an admirable work ethic and a love for farming and family.

He met and fell in love with Dorothy George while still in high school. They married on July 29, 1960 in Wichita Falls, Texas, and spent 65 beautiful years together as husband and wife. Together, they raised three girls, Rhonda, Dana, and Teresa. Leon was a dedicated father and often let the girls help him work on his home projects.

Leon was a man of many talents who would put his hard work and knowledge into everything he did. He once built his own dune buggy, as well as his own tractor, which he had brought home in pieces, putting it back together with patience and skill. He started his working career with Earnhardt Seed & Grain, then at Gulf gas station before finally finding a long-time career with Halliburton. He was respected and admired by his many co-workers.

At home, he was known as the best Daddy in the world who could fix anything, often repairing things around the house that he built with his own hands or toys for his girls when they broke or wore down. He also had a paint and body shop where he could be found painting vehicles.

Leon was very active in his church, Cornerstone Assembly of God, formerly Banner. Through the years he served in several different positions, which included Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, handyman, and also played the guitar and occasionally the bass. He also played at home, especially for family gatherings and would make up songs about Tonka trucks for his beloved grandson, Jarrod.

After retiring from Halliburton, Leon started his own business “Custom Swathing & Baling”. Though he kept himself busy, he always had time for his wife, children, grandchild, and nieces and nephews. Leon was a true family man at heart.

Leon was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; daughter, Rhonda Fullerton; brother, Eugene Sheppeard; and sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Altman, Christine Fletcher, and Ruthie “Mugsy” Carden.

He is survived by his brother, Carlis Sheppeard, and wife Yvonne; daughters; Dana Owens of Duncan, OK and friend Harry Frasher of Eufala, OK; Teresa and husband Harley Willcox of Malakoff, TX; son-in-law, David Fullerton; grandson, Jarrod Owens; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers for the service will be Chisum Stuckey, Chantz Stuckey, Danny Fletcher, Tony Fletcher, and Michael Blore. Honorary pallbearers are Carlis Sheppeard, Harley Wilcox, David Fullerton, and Harry Frasher.

There will never be another on this Earth like Leon Sheppeard.

His care has been entrusted to Carter-Smart Funeral Directors. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 6-7:30 pm at Carter-Smart Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:00 am at Cornerstone Assembly of God with Pastor Tom Snavely officiating and music by Marcia Barnett, Jack Shults, and Curtis Wilson. Interment will follow immediately after at Rock Creek Cemetery.
