IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold James
Akers
February 6, 1942 – February 17, 2025
Harold James Akers, 83, joined his Heavenly Father on February 17, 2025, while at home with family surrounding him.
Harold was born to James Abner Akers and Altha Alice Akers on February 6, 1942 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was born again spiritually, becoming a child of God, in 1954. On March 31, 1972 in Duncan, Oklahoma, Harold married his devoted and loving wife of 53 years, Sonya Presgrove.
Harold was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off of his back without hesitation. He was selfless, kind and always there when you needed him. Harold never cared for material possessions; he found joy in life's simple blessings. He was perfectly content driving his old 1993 GMC short-bed truck, which he bought from his brother-in-law Denny. Even after the air conditioner gave out, he continued to drive it through Oklahoma's triple-digit summers without complaint. That was just who Harold was. He was a man with a resilient spirit and an uncanny ability to find a silver lining in every challenge life threw his way. His testimony and prayers were instrumental in leading his family, friends and coworkers to know Jesus Christ as their savior. Harold attended Ray of Hope Church, and his faith dared the soul to go beyond what the eyes can see. He walked by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
He was the rock of the family, a man of unwavering faith whose love for the Lord Jesus Christ never faltered. Harold's strength, generosity and steadfast spirit will be deeply missed. His last breath on Earth marked his first breath in the riches of eternal glory. 1 Corinthians 2:9 states, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him."
In the end, Harold squeezed just about every ounce of life from the time the good Lord allotted him. To the modern world, obsessed with social media and fleeting clickbait trends, he may have seemed like a nobody. But to his family, he was everything-deeply loved and irreplaceably missed. And above all, the eternal, everlasting God has called him home and no earthly achievement could ever compare to the glory of being welcomed into His presence as a good and faithful servant.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife Sonya, son Lionel Akers, daughter Valerie Hall (husband Jeff), daughter Krystal Grabman (husband Steve), sister Rosemary Hale (husband Larry), blonde-haired blue-eyed angel, Molly Grabman; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. Harold was also dearly loved by his wife's family, the Presgroves: Terry, who was like a brother; Jana, who considered him a second father; Denny, who loved and respected him; two nephews, three nieces, and two special cousins, Mike and Karen Baldwin. Harold was honored, respected, and adored by all those that survive him.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, James and Altha Akers, sister, Anita Richardson, father-in-law Denton Presgrove, and mother-in-law Janell Presgrove.
Harold's family is celebrating knowing that he has passed through the most important gate of all, the entrance to Heavenly Glory.
Services for Harold will be held on February 20th, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Carter-Smart Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Randy Sutherland officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Cassidy Presgrove and Jordon Suson..
