G. L. (Pete) Smart

G. L. (Pete) Smart, 94 of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dan Standifer officiating, interment will follow at the Duncan Duncan Cemetery, and arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home.

G. L. (Pete) was born December 29, 1924 in Walters, Oklahoma to George Lowery and Eula Bell (Mims) Smart, the oldest of four boys, Pete married Joy Laverne "Penny" Webb on March 21, 1948. He entered the U.S. Navy in August 1943 aboard the USS Copahee, and received a honorable discharge in November 1946. He then began working in the oil fields moving his family across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. He worked form many years in Saudi Arabia as a rig supervisor. He retired from Pool Arabia in 1989.. Pete and Penny settled in Duncan with their two children, Beverly Sue and Gary Lee. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas, reminiscing about growing in Walters, playing poker at the VFW, along with dancing and bingo at the Duncan Senior Citizen Center.

Pete is survived by his daughter; Sue Campbell of the home, granddaughters; Heather Meadows and Sara Walker, great grandchildren; Charity Meadows, Dharma Meadows, Blake Meadows, Anna Walker and SheaLee Walker, great-great grandson; Gaven Hamilton, brother;  Kenneth Smart and special friend Clema Woods, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife Penny Smart, son; Gary Smart, grandson; John Campbell, brothers; Wendell Smart and Bob Smart, son-in-law; Les Campbell and daughter-in-law; Karla Smart.

Pallbearers will be Blake Meadows, Damien Hamilton, Blaine Ridley, Roy Black and Tom McDonald.
