Obituary

Alyce Ruth Bonham, who spent 99 glorious years with us, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 30, 2026.

Alyce was a woman highly devoted to her family, her marriage, and her love of Jesus. Her grandmother, whom she loved dearly, would read to her from the Bible each night before bed. Alyce was especially proud that she had read her Bible beginning to end 39 times.

At the end of her high school days, Alyce met the love of her life, Charles Bonham, while he was on leave. He was determined to marry the prettiest girl in school and he got his wish when they ran off together during Christmas and married on December 24, 1944.

Alyce became a nurse and worked with Dr. George Bryan for many years before retiring. She was a natural with aptitude and natural care for the people in her charge.

She was a woman with style, but could often be found tending to her garden or canning. She had a love for the outdoors that knew no bounds and she and Charlie would travel in their camper, moving from site to site.

Alyce was famous for her coconut pies (which actually had no coconut in them), her chili, her pumpkin pies, and her coke and chip parties with family members. She was a tough woman, who wholly devoted herself to her hobbies, her family, and to Jesus.

Alyce was preceded in death by her husband, Charles. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jones; granddaughter, Amanda Lyn Wooten and husband Damien; grandson Todd Charles Jones; great-grandchildren Luke Todd, Kaylie Wooten, Feryn Pierce-Elwood, and Declan Jones.

Pallbearers will be Todd Jones, Declan Jones, Luke Todd, Dale Coffin, Bobby Dodson, and Blaze Black.

Her care has been entrusted to Carter-Smart Funeral Directors. Services for Alyce will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:00 am at West Side Christian Church with Reverend Ron Motley officiating. Interment will follow immediately after at Duncan Municipal Cemetery.
