Mildred D. (Millie) Goodner

     Mildred D. (Kerr) Goodner, 97 of Duncan passed away  Saturday, September 23, 2017.

Visitation for Millie will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel, with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with Reverends Dr. Janice Sharp and Kathy Gibson officiating and arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.

Millie was born April 24, 1920, she grew up in a small town of Normal, Illinois with her sister Ola, brother, John Jr. and loving parents John and Alice Kerr.

Millie and her husband Charles (Chuck) were married in 1941 and had two sons Guy and Greg. For the last 55 years Millie has made her home in Duncan, Oklahoma where she was involved in numerous community activities. For over 35 years, Millie worked as a volunteer for hospitals here in Duncan. From 1990-1991 she was the president of the Duncan Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was the past president of the Red River chapter of the Red Cross for over 27 years, Millie enjoyed working for the Stephens County board of Elections for county, state and federal elections. For over 20 years Millie was an active swimmer and believed in keeping herself physically fit. In 1991 she was asked to swim in the first lap of the opening of the new Simmons Community Center. She and her husband were active in the community concert series. She also actively volunteered at the Duncan Library and the Community Christmas Dinner. Millie was also an avid bridge and mah jongg player.

Millie was so grateful for all her opportunities to travel the world with her husband. She saw as much of God's earth as she could from Australia to Israel, Egypt, India, even flying over Antarctic. She loved to take cruises to these exotic places where she made new friends and had great adventures. From meeting Johnny Cash at the Jordan River to riding horses into Petra and camels at the Great Pyramid of Giza, Millie saw the wonders of the world and made sure to instill her love of travel into her grandchildren.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, parents; John and Alice Kerr, brother; John Kerr Jr. and sister; Ola Darnell.

Millie is survived by her two sons; Gregg Goodner and his wife Peg of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Guy Goodner and his wife Linda of Georgetown, Kentucky. Millie was very proud of her grandchildren; Ryan Goodner and his wife Ashley of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Lindsay Gorbach and her husband Jonathon of Dallas, Texas and Kelly Goodner of Dallas, Texas and Grant Goodner of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was blessed with one great-granddaughter; Savannah of Waxhaw, North Carolina. She is also survived by a close friend of the family Marilyn Leaming of Dallas, Texas. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Fallis Beal, Dr. Dennis Hughes, Dr. Michael Elliot, Dean Hall and Hal Labyer all of Duncan, Oklahoma.
