Bob McLain

     Bob McLain 89, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Elk Crossing in Duncan.

     Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Southerland officiating, interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors. 

     The family will receive friend Wednesday evening, January 24, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home

     Bob was the youngest of 7 children born to Benny Gus and Dora Idella (Ziegler) McLain. Bob lived in Duncan his entire life, with the exception of a few months after graduating from Duncan High School, that he spent in California where he worked at "Big Boys" hamburger joint. He also worked for a short time on a seismograph crew with his brother Newt. Bob met his sweetheart at the Duncan skating rink. He married his skating partner, Bessie Moore, on September 17, 1950 and they had two daughters; Linda and Beverly. Bob and Bessie recently celebrated their 67th. wedding anniversary.

     In 1953, Bob went to work for the refinery south of Duncan, where he worked for 30 years, Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent much time enjoying these activities with friends and family members, camping at lakes and fishing at farm ponds.

     Bob accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at age 25 and was active in whatever church he was attending. He was a ordained deacon and enjoyed mission trips within the United States and Guatemala, he taught a men's Sunday school class for nearly 30 years an proudly completed a college course in ancient bible history. Not only was Bob devoted to God and his church, he was totally devoted to his family and community. When his girls were young he provided mentoring and instruction to a girls grade school softball team and helped with 4-H. 

     Bob was a family man in every sense of the word. He lived to love his wife; Bessie, children; Linda (McLain) Haenisch and Joe Baker, and Beverly (McLain) George, grandchildren; Chad Willard and Sherry Moore, Stephanie and Jamal Curtis, Jamie and Andie Reyes, Leigh Ann and C.J. Felder. Great-grandchildren; Steven and Kasandra Moore, Courtney Moore, Marissa Curtis and Rusty Hargrove, Mia Curtis, Miles Curtis, Legend Reyes, Malachi Daugherty and Jaylen Felder, great-great grandchildren; Hadleigh and Kingsley Moore, Kiyson and Titus Hargrove. Bob also had a love for extended family. a sister-in-law; Nadine and a host of nieces and nephews.

     Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sis siblings; sister Roxie Mclain, Mozzel Kelly, and Audrey Coe, brothers; Earl, Burl and Newt, a son-in-law; Gerold George.  

     Pallbearers will be Chad Willard, Stephanie Curtis, Leigh Ann Felder, Jamie Reyes, Steven Moore, Courtney Moore, Marissa Curtis and Malachi Daugherty. Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Mooney, Bill Landis, George Sorrell and Odell Hooper.

     In lieu of flowers the family request donation be made to your charity of your choice.
