Bessie McLain
Bessie Louise (Moore) McLain, 85 was surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 14, 2019, when she passed from this world and arrived in the loving arms of Jesus her savior.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church West with Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Bessie was born on July 1, 1933 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Emmitt and Lila (Parson) Moore. She attended schools and lived in Duncan for 85 years. Bessie married Bob McLain on September 17, 1950 in Duncan, Oklahoma, and Bob preceded her in death on January 18, 2018. Bessie was a homemaker and mother of 2 daughters. When the daughters were older, Bessie was employed at the Hager Slack Factory where she worked until the factory closed. Bessie was an extremely talented seamstress, making matching dresses for her girls and her self for all occasions. She also made 3-piece suits for her grandson when he was young, and of course those frilly dress for the granddaughters and even for great-granddaughters.
Bob and Bessie were members of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years where she was a preschool Sunday School Teacher. Later Bob and Bessie joined the New Hope Baptist Church where they were active members until their health prevented them from attended. Bessie loved the Lord, She was a faithful servant whether it was teaching preschoolers, cooking dinners, or mission trips her in the United States and in Guatemala.
Bessie and Bob enjoyed camping and fishing at local lakes with their close friends and family. They also enjoyed sporting events of their children, grandchildren, and family friends. Of all the things that Bessie loved, she loved spending time with her family the most, and made it a priority. She was a loving wife, mother, Nanny, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friends to many, and she will be dearly missed.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; Emmitt & Lila Moore, three sisters; Betty Cherry, Margaret Ball, Lila Powell, son-in-laws; Jim Daugherty, Hans Haenisch, and Gerold George.
Bessie is survived by two daughters; Linda Baker & husband Joe of Washburn, Texas, and Beverly George of Duncan, Oklahoma. Grandchildren; Chad Willard & Sherry, Jamie & Andy Reyes, Stephanie & Jamal Curtis, Leigh Ann & C.J. Felder. Great-grandchildren; Steven & KaSandra Moore, Courtney Moore, Legend Reyes, Marissa Curtis & Rusty, Mia Curtis, Malachi Daughterty, and Jaylen Felder. Great-Great grandchildren; Hadleigh & Kingsley Moore, Kiyson, Titus, and Willow Hargrove. She is also survived by one sister; Elizabeth Edwards, and one brother; Frank Moore, one sister-in-law; Nadine McLain, numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Mooney and Bill Landis.
