Frances (Boyd) Kennedy Obituary

Frances May (Boyd) Kennedy

June 25, 1930 - February 5, 2024

Frances May (Boyd) Kennedy was born on June 25, 1930, in Comanche, OK, to C. H. “Shorty” Boyd and Oneita (Stroud) Boyd, who both preceded her in death.  Frances passed away in Bedford, Texas at the age of 93 on February 5th, 2024, following a brief illness.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche with John Dillard, her nephew, officiating.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.

Frances grew up in Comanche and attended Comanche Schools. On June 21, 1948, she married Roy “Buck” Kennedy, Jr., the love of her life, in Henrietta Texas. After their marriage, they were lifelong residents of Stephens County, OK, residing in the Meridian community for many years.  They then moved to Duncan in 1987.  Frances and Buck were married for 66 years.  He preceded Frances in death on November 15, 2014.  Frances moved to Texas in March 2023.

Frances was loved by her family and friends because of her kind, caring and loving attitude toward all and toward life.  She and Buck loved gardening and had a deep passion for animals which included raising Shetland ponies, sheep, and rabbits.  Frances also dearly loved raising dogs.  She enjoyed playing bunco for many years, and most recently enjoyed playing bingo.  Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, and holiday-related craft projects.  And family was of utmost importance to both Frances and Buck.

Frances is survived by son Gary Kennedy and wife Ruth of Hurst, TX; daughter, Randy Ann Stickney and husband Chris of Zuni, NM; granddaughter Debbie Langlois and husband Jim of Virginia; granddaughter Rebekah Davis and husband Brandon of California; along with 3 great grandsons. She is also survived by her sister Wanda White, and sister-in-law JoAn King and husband Wayne, all of Duncan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Stephens County Humane Society of Oklahoma at PO Box 669, Duncan, OK 73534.
