Gary Lee Smart

     Gary Lee Smart 66, of Duncan, Oklahoma  passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at Wilkins Nursing Home with His family by his side.

     Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Dan Standifer and assisted by rev. David McAllister. Interment will follow at the Duncan Cemetery and arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.

     Gary was born November 7, 1950 in Duncan, Oklahoma to G.L."Pete" and Joy Laverne "Penny" Smart. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1971. He continued his education following his true calling and passion. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist Seminary in Marlow, Oklahoma in 1976 with his Seminary Degree in Pastoral Ministries. He married the love of his life, Karla Faye Gunn, November 16, 1981. He worked at Duncan Builders Supply for 30 years, retiring in 2015. He mowed yards in summers for many years. He was an avid Sooner fan. He was a sweet and honest man that had a love for God that shown through him.

     Gary is survived by a daughter; Sarah and Jed Walker and a granddaughter Anna Walker, all of Duncan, Oklahoma, his father; G.L. "Pete" Smart of Duncan, Oklahoma, a sister; Sue and Less Campbell of Duncan, Oklahoma, three nieces and a nephew; Heather, Charity, Dharma and Blake Meadows all of Duncan, Oklahoma, mother-in-law; Norma Nickles of Midwest City, Oklahoma, sister-in-law; Karen and Tony Trinidad of Dumas, Texas, uncles; Kenneth and Charlene Smart of Duncan, Oklahoma, Ronnie and June Webb of Greenville, Texas, and Donald and Stella Webb of Homosassa, Florida, and many other family and friends

     Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Karla Faye Smart, his mother; Joy Laverne "Penny" Smart and a nephew John Travis Campbell.

     At the request of the family, please wear OU or OU colors in memory of Gary.

     Pallbearers will be Sam Darst, Ronnie Pierce, Steve Smart, Alvin Oliver, Billy Almon and Mike Cornforth.
