Dr. E.R. Cagle Jr. 85, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at Country Club Care Nursing Center.

     Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Parkview Baptist Church, with Rev. Tommy Hinson officiating and Rev. Craig Cagle assisting, interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with graveside services conducted by Kirby Cagle, Cody Cagle and Brittnay Glenn, and arrangements have been entrusted to the family care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors.

     Family visitation will be Friday evening from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home.     

     Dr. E.R. Cagle Jr. was born June 27, 1931 in Walters, Oklahoma, to E.R. and Susan Rebecca (McMillon) Cagle. He was the youngest of six children. He attended school in Walters, Oklahoma and graduated as Salutatorian in 1949. He continued his education at Cameron Junior College and graduated in 1952, he then went to  further his studies at Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating in 1956. While attending OBU, he met his wonderful wife Jacklyn Sampson, in 1953 and they were married in 1954 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He went on to continue his education at Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, where he graduated in 1959. He was called to Pastor Fairview Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma, where they spent four wonderful years and welcomed their first child, Craig in 1959. In 1963 they moved to Paris, Texas where E.R. was pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church. Rene' joined the family in 1964 and Kent joined the family in 1966. 

     In 1967, E.R. was called as Director of Missions for Three Rivers Baptist Association, where he served for fourteen years. While there he attended Southern Seminary at Louisville, Kentucky, where he received his Doctorate in 1979, from 1981-1986, E.R. was pastor of First Baptist Church Springfield in Springfield, Illinois. In 1986, E.R., Jackie and Rene' moved to Denver, Colorado, where E.R. served as Director of Missions for Denver Baptist Association. This was a very fruitful ministry, in which many churches and missions were organized. He retired in 1996 at the age of 65.

    E.R. and Jacklie came home to Oklahoma in 1996, where E. R. served as Interim Pastor at Highland Park, Loco, Irving, Parkview and Eastside Baptist Churches. In 2003 Eastside Baptist Church of Marlow, Oklahoma called him as pastor, where he served until he retired in 2007.

     He lived a long and fruitful life and God welcomed him into Heaven Monday, March 6, 2017, saying "Well done my good and faithful servant."  

     E.R. is survived by his wife; Jackie, son; Craig and his wife Nancy, son; Kent and daughter; Rene'. Five grandchildren; Brittnay and her fiance  Mike, LeAnna and her husband Cody, Rebecca and her husband Madison, Kirby and Cody. Four great-grandchildren; Zain, Nolan, Noah and Cole. He is also survived by one sister; Delma Wood and two brothers; Earl and his wife Theda and Rick. and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.   

     He is preceded in death by his parents E.R. and Susan Cagle, his two brothers; Arnel and Frank Cagle, two sisters; Hassel Mae Sandlin and Alma Roberts and one niece.

     Pallbearers will be Kirby Cagle, Cody Cagle, Mike Matherly, Travis Cagle, and Cody Trolinger. Honorary pallbearer will be Scott Sampson.
