Avis Juanita (Bradley) Choat

          Avis Juanita (Bradley) Choat, age 96 of Duncan, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Elk Crossing.

     The celebration of her life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 with Rev. Charles Roy McConnell and Rev. Dick Greenwood officiating at the Carter-Smart Funeral home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Duncan Cemetery and arrangements have been entrusted to the Family care of Carter-Funeral Directors.

     The family will receive friends for visitation at the Carter-Smart Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017.

     Avis was born April 3, 1921 , at Hydro, Oklahoma, to John Lester Bradley and Evaline Wolfe Bradley. She and James Ellsworth Choat were married on June 9, 1946 in Hollis, Oklahoma. The were married for 56 years before Ellsworth passed away in 2002. Avis was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt. She was a wonderful homemaker and had many talents which included sewing, cooking, ceramics, oil painting, and enjoyed caring for her plants.

     One of Avis proudest accomplishments was holding a world record in the Guinness Book of Records for the most golden weddings in a family with 11 siblings all celebrating their golden wedding anniversaries between 1963 and 1997. 

     She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her three brothers and eight sisters; Myrtle Bradley Cox, Glen Bradley, Pearl Bradley Parker, Bill Bradley, Dora Bradley Linville, Cora Bradley Foster, Austin Bradley, Minnie Bradley Howard, Lois Bradley Patterson, and Eunice Bradley Wood.

     Survivors include two daughters; Midge Choat Gerber and her husband John of Norman, Oklahoma, and Sherri Choat Ernst of Dallas, Texas, four grandchildren; Casey Gerber and his wife Christa of Norman, Oklahoma, Courtney Gerber Johnson and her husband Jeremy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Laura Ernst Byrne and her husband James of Dallas, Texas, and Amanda Ernst of Austin, Texas, five great-grandchildren; Owen Gerber, Stella Gerber, Logann Johnson, Merritt Johnson, and Jeb Byrne, special friends Robert and Terry Harrison of Duncan, and numerous nieces , nephews and friends.

     Pallbearers will be Robert Harrison, Bill Loughridge, Leon Howard, Dale Bradley, David Bradley, and James Byrne. Honorary pallbearers will be E.L. Howard and Wayne Wilson.

     The family would like to thank everyone who spent time with Avis and helped care for her (including the staff at Elk Crossing) during the past few years. You were all very special to her.
